RALEIGH, N.C. -- The Carolina Hurricanes traded defenseman Glen Wesley to the Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday for a second-round pick in the 2004 draft.
"At this time, this trade makes sense for both Glen and our organization. We wish him good luck in his pursuit to win the Stanley Cup," Hurricanes president Jim Rutherford said.
The 34-year-old Wesley played nine seasons for the Hurricanes, ranking third in franchise history with 629 games. He leaves with 190 points and 434 penalty minutes.
He has 124 goals and 373 assists in 1,166 career NHL games over 16 seasons.
Wesley has one goal, seven assists and 40 penalty minutes in 63 games this season for Carolina, which entered Sunday with 55 points - second-worst in the league.
Toronto entered Sunday in the fifth slot in the Eastern Conference playoff race. The Maple Leafs acquired Owen Nolan from the San Jose Sharks on Wednesday.
